Alamo Heights running back Deryl Reynolds and receiver Nik Proctor both had big offensive nights to lead the Mules to a 41-16 victory over the Marble Falls Mustangs in the team’s District 26-5A opener at Mustang Stadium.

The Mules (4-0) used its speed offense to build a 14-3 first quarter lead and then in the second quarter got a key turnover from the defense to turn the game.

With the score 14-6, Marble Falls got the football after a short punt at the Alamo Heights’ 38. A 25-yard strike from quarterback Andrew Stripling to Michael Wilcox netted a quick first at the 13. On the next play Cooper Wilson tried a dive play up the middle, but the ball squirted loose and Alamo Heights recovered.

Alamo Heights then put together a 12-play, 86-yard drive to score and take a 21-156 lead on a 2-yard run by quarterback Will Chaney. Alamo Heights converted two third down plays on the drive, including the score from Chaney on a keeper.

Chaney set the pace early in the game hitting Proctor, working the right flank. Proctor’s speed helped him turn nine catches into 114 yards receiving.

He scored the game’s first touchdown on a 32-yard pass as the Mules raced down the field in less than three minutes, covering 84 yards in nine plays. Proctor caught four passes on the drive.

Reynolds finished with 22 carries for 153 yards and scored on a pair of runs of five and four yards.

Marble Falls linebacker Heath Dooley scored the Mustangs lone touchdown on a 10-yard interception off Alamo Heights’ reserve quarterback with 4:20 left in the game.
