Donn Martin Baumgartner

Donn Martin Baumgartner passed from this life on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, in Livermore, California.

After graduating from Judson High School in Converse, Texas, Donn continued his education at Rice University, Houston, Texas, having earned a scholarship there.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Computer Science.

Among other accomplishments, Donn was an inventor, and in June of 1997 registered a patent for “synchronizing audio and video data streams in a multimedia system”.

He worked for the IBM and Dell Corporations, and continued private contract work for several software companies during his life.

Donn worked hard all his life, and learned to play as hard as he worked, becoming certified in scuba diving, licensed in flying ultra-lights, loved hang-gliding, skating and long distance roller skating: living his motto: Skate Free or Die.

He loved The Friday Night Skate from the San Francisco Ferry Building as well as the Athens to Atlanta race.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Al and Elizabeth Lee and his uncle Damon Lee. Donn is survived by his mother, Karen Lee Perkins; his brothers and sisters: Roy Star, Ruth Collins, Mark Gerard Baumgartner and Becky Wyatt, his cousin Inessa Monique Vitko, his nephews and nieces: Matthew Lee Baumgartner, Sarah Elizabeth Baumgartner and Tony Picciolo, and his great-nephews and nieces: John Mark Baumgartner and Faith Baumgartner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the missionary work of Donn’s baby brother: AGWM, 1445 N. Boonville Ave., Springfield, Missouri, 65802, Mark G. Baumgartner, acct. # 2280048, or to the CRRC, 1917 FM 2673, Canyon Lake, Texas, 78133.

A celebration of Donn’s life will be held in a private memorial service on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at the family home in Canyon Lake, Texas.
