U.S. Representative K. Michael Conaway (R-Texas) will hold a town hall meeting Tuesday, April 11, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Family Life Center of Lutie Watkins United Methodist Church, 800 Wright Street in Llano.

One of Conaway's district offices is located in Llano and he has conducted frequent meetings for constituents since he was elected to the then-new Dist. 11 in 2004.

While many elected officials have taken heat for avoiding town hall meetings, Conaway has posted an invitation to his on his website.

He did receive an open letter from some constituents in March before the Republican push to replace the Affordable Care Act was set aside. Asking for a local town hall, it read, “We’ve looked at the proposed healthcare bill and it is not understandable to lay people. It uses legalese and it refers back and forth to other laws.”

The letter went on to note that, during 2011-2015 in Llano County, 13.4 percent of the population under 65 had a disability and 22.3 percent of our population was uninsured.

Please help us. Please hear us,” it concluded.

The former accountant from Midland represents 29 counties in Texas’ 11th congressional district, including Llano County and nearby San Saba and Mason Counties.

He serves on the beleaguered Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence that made headlines Thursday when Republican Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, stepped down from theporobe into allegations of Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential election. Nunes said he would answers complaints filed against him in the Office of Congressional Ethics for receiving information from the offices of President Donald Trump, conferring with that office and holding a press conference, all before sharing with the committee.

Conaway is a deputy Republican whip where he would have been on the inside of his party's efforts to pass a healthcare proposal. He is chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture “Congressman Conaway regularly schedules town hall meetings across the district,” said Emily Hytha, his communications director in Washington, D.C. “ We’ve found that when we have longer district work periods, as we do over the next two weeks, we are able to maximize his time meeting with constituents across the 29-county district.”

She said would hold seven town halls around the district over the next two weeks, in hopes of reaching as many constituents as possible while in Texas.

This is an effort he has consistently prioritized,” said Hytha. “He was even in the top 10 of members who held the most town halls for the past three years: http://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/322024-gop-lawmakers-lead-way-in....
