Wanda Beth Gourtney

February 16, 1930 — October 31, 2017

Wanda Beth Gortney, 87, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, at her home after a lengthy illness.

Wanda was born Feb. 16, 1930, in Luther, Texas, to Clyde and Eula Clanton. She graduated from Big Spring High School. Wanda worked at the Crystal Cafe, where she met her husband James Gortney. They were married July 2, 1948. Together, they had five children: Edna (Ricky) Lane and husband Jerry Lane of Burnet, Texas; Donna Paugh and husband Ray of Kingsland, Texas; Lanny Gortney and wife Jamie of Odessa, Texas; Pam Little and husband Steve of Granite Shoals, Texas; and Laurie Michelle Gortney. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Danny Clanton; and many more friends and family.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband James; a daughter, Laurie Michelle; a grandson, Jason Shawn Cole; four brothers, WC Clanton, Merle Clanton, Riley Clanton and Gerald Clanton; and four sisters, Delora Scarborough, Alveeta Szitar, Clydene Echols, and Wilmajean Alley.
Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 2, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Sunset Funeral Home in Odessa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Altus Hospice, 100 N. College St., Round Rock, TX 78664.
