Long-time Marble Falls, Texas, resident Sharon Diane LaFon received her long-awaited healing and walked confidently into the strong and loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017.
Sharon was born June 27, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the second of six children for Albert Nathaniel Rydeen and Shirley Viola Rydeen, née Anderson. In 1955, she graduated from Robbinsdale High School and worked at clerical jobs in Minneapolis before moving to Great Falls, Montana. There she got a job as a pretty blonde receptionist and played piano at Grace Baptist Church, where she caught the eye of a young airman, Daniel John LaFon II of San Antonio, Texas. They were married Aug. 8, 1964. She followed Dan to Bible college in Canada where he became a minister, then to Washington, Colorado, and Mississippi before moving to Marble Falls, in 1986.
Along the way, she gave birth to six children and devoted her life to her family. Over the years, Sharon’s health declined due to a slow muscle degeneration that eventually bound her to an electric chair and took her ability to play the piano. But it never took her beautiful smile and twinkling blue eyes.
Sharon was preceded in death by her father and mother, Albert and Shirley Rydeen; her brother Rodney Rydeen; and her sister Maryland Rydeen Finlayson. She is survived by her husband, best friend and constant caregiver, Daniel John LaFon II; her children, Colleen LaFon Rogers and her husband Brian, of Plano, Texas, son Daniel LaFon III and his wife Kristine of Murphy, Texas, daughter Michelle LaFon Boswell and her husband Matthew of Plano, daughter Leslie LaFon Burcham and her husband Ty of Round Rock, Texas, son Nathan LaFon and his wife Leslie of McKinney, Texas, and daughter Holly LaFon of Plano; and her nine beautiful, bright and beloved grandchildren: Brianna, Davis, Bailey, Riley, Mason, Max, Hale Morgan, Bradie and Baby Henry. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Nancy and David Van Tassel of Alexandria, Virginia, Carole and Neil Chamberlain, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Ruth and Pat Wolfe of Wayzata, Minnesota; as well as her sister-in-law, Judy Rydeen and her brother-in-law Bob Finlayson, both of Minneapolis.
Sharon’s smile and constant prayers will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by each of them until they join her in Heaven.
Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, with services to follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Jenkins Funeral Home, 109 N. Main, Burnet.
