May 5 election filings under way
The filling period for candidates for May 5, 2018, municipal and school board elections officially begins Wednesday, Jan. 17, and continues through Feb. 16.
Municipalities in Burnet County which will hold elections that date include Marble Falls, Burnet, Bertram, Granite Shoals, Meadowlakes, Highland Haven and Cottonwood Shores. Horseshoe Bay holds its municipal elections in November.
Both Marble Falls Independent School District and Burnet Consolidated Independent School District will also hold their school board elections on May 5.
Marble Falls ISD
Three positions are currently open for the May 5 election on the Marble Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees:
* Place 5, currently held by Alex Payson
* Place 6, currently held by Board President Kevin Naumann
* Place 7, currently held by Kevin Virdell
Each place will be elected to a three-year term. Candidate application packets may be picked up at the MFISD Administration building, 1800 Colt Circle, during regular business hours beginning Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 or by emailing Julie Shaffer at jshaffer@mfisd.txed.net.
Application filings will be accepted at the MFISD Administration building at 1800 Colt Circle from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays – Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays.
The last day to apply for a place on the May 5, 2018, MFISD Board of Trustees ballot is 4 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018. No filings can be accepted after that time.
Burnet CISD
The Burnet CISD School Board has three places will be on the ballot this year:
* Place 2, currently held by Angela Moore;
* Place 4,currently held by Jeff Hullum;
* Place 6, currently held by Robby Robertson.
These are three-year terms. Filing for a place on the ballot will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning Wednesday, Jan. 17, and will continue through Friday, Feb. 16, at the BCISD Central Office, 208 E. Brier, Burnet. On Friday, Feb. 16, the filing deadline will be extended to 5 p.m. For more information, please call Sharon Schwartz at 512-756-2124.
