Leona Gertrude (Gertie) McGee

January 30, 1931 — January 15, 2018

Gertie McGee is absent from the body but present with her Lord as of Jan. 15, 2018. Leaving this world at the age of 86, she leaves behind a rich legacy of prayer, gentleness, kindness, goodness, and love which blessed everyone within her sphere of influence. She embraced a gentle and quiet spirit that is precious in the sight of God and others.

Celebration of Gertie’s life will be on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church Kingsland, Texas, (3435 RM 1431), with the Revs. Dwight Reagan, Bubba Stahl, and Brouning Lentz officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park (4219 Park Road 45 in Burnet). Visitation will be at the church before the funeral from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and Ron and Cindy will be at the Antler’s Hotel meeting room in Kingsland Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Gertrude was born in Eufaula, Oklahoma, to Della and Ambrose Qualls on Jan. 30, 1931. She married Billy McGee in Santa Anna, Texas, on April 5, 1947. They settled in Kingsland in 1958. They lived in Rockport for four years before returning to Kingsland in 1991 before Bill’s death in 1992. Gertie remained in Kingsland until she moved to Abilene in 2012.

Gertrude is reunited in Heaven with her loving husband, Bill; her son, Johnny Ray McGee; and her great grandson, Brody Manning; along with many other precious family members and friends. Survivors celebrating her life include her children, Jim McGee and his wife Vicki of Cedar Park, Danny McGee and wife Leahnn of Cedar Park, and Cindy Blevins and her husband, Ron, of Abilene. Gertie’s grandchildren include Tiffany Stout and her husband Sean of Cedar Park, and Shawn McGee of College Station. Great grandchildren include Lexi, Sydney, and Cody Manning of Cedar Park. Other survivors include her sisters Merle Bishop of Lakeway and Delma Ensor of Cristoval along with their families.

Gertrude was a loving wife, mother, and Sunday School teacher. She also blessed many lives as she helped out in the family department store. She enjoyed walking, gardening, quilting, traveling with Bill, and spending time reading her Bible and praying. She leaves behind a faithful, inspirational, and challenging legacy of love and service to her Lord. Great is her reward in Heaven.
