Claire Gervais Howell

Claire Gervais Howell, 94, of Marble Falls, Texas, died Jan. 17, 2018. She was born on Aug. 17, 1923, in New Orleans. She eventually moved to Austin, where she owned and operated student housing at the University of Texas for 26 years. She proudly provided a home to students from all over the world at Howell House on 32nd Street. In the early 1990s, she retired from the Internal Revenue Service in Austin after 22 years of service. She lived in Austin and Buda, but she relocated to Marble Falls in 1993 and enjoyed living near the water. Claire truly cherished her family and close friends and was an inspiration to all who were fortunate to know her.

She is survived by two daughters, Danne Claire Cubbage Murphy and Allyson Thompson Keogh; two granddaughters, Amy Lynn Decker (husband Steve) and Alexandria Keogh; and three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Decker, John Decker, and Jayden Keogh. She is also survived by two brothers, Reverend Sidney J. Gervais Jr. (wife Laetitia) and Neil F. Gervais (wife Carolyn); sister-in-law, Nancy Gervais; and many nieces, nephews and cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarita Hotchkiss McClaughlin and Sidney J. Gervais Sr.; and two brothers, Robert and James Gervais.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her private caregivers and to Texas Home Health Hospice.

Visitation will be at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls from Jan. 23 through Jan. 25.

The funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Marble Falls on Friday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. burial at Oakwood Cemetery at 1601 Navasota, just east of downtown Austin.
