Gerald Eugene Shaffer died peacefully on Sunday, March 4, at the age of 87.
Gerald Shaffer was born on Sept. 17, 1930, in Marble Falls, Texas. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served 26 years with the United States Border Patrol. He married his wife, Helen Ruth Shaffer, in 1958. They were married for 31 years when she passed away in November 1989.
Gerald is survived by his son, Mike Shaffer and his wife Julie Shaffer; grandsons Dustin and Tanner Shaffer of Marble Falls; and granddaughter Casey Junek and her husband Dustin Junek of Houston. He is also survived by his sister, Johnette Rhea Fischer of Longview, Texas, and his friend and companion for many years, Faye Weber, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen, his parents, John Henry and Iris Hays Shaffer, his brother, Wendell Shaffer, and sister, Maxine Hemenway.
The Shaffer family would like to send their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at CelesteCare of Horseshoe Bay. A graveside service will take place Wednesday, March 7, at 1 p.m. at the Marble Falls Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gerald’s life.
