Helen May Lambert
October 3, 1920 — April 20, 2018
Helen May Lambert passed away April 20, 2018, at the age of 97. She was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Walton, Nebraska, to Roy George Cuddy and Emma Mathilda Mohr Cuddy. Helen graduated from Walton, Nebraska, High School in 1938 and went on to complete coursework at the Lincoln School of Commerce. She then began work as a secretary at the Nebraska Statehouse, ultimately working as the Governor’s secretary. While working in the Statehouse, she met Dwight Wesley Lambert, whom she married on March 16, 1944. Together they had three children: Frank, Dennis, and Barbara. Helen continued her secretarial career through a few family moves and ultimately was the secretary to a Director in the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Maryland.
Helen was active in the communities where they lived. Retiring to Marble Falls, Texas, she was active in St. Peters Lutheran Church and Post 437 American Legion Auxiliary. She contributed a lot of time to the Helping Center in Marble Falls when it was first established. She continued her community work with the Burnet County Sheriff's Department in determination of medical alert necessity for individuals.
Helen and Dwight loved to travel and saw most of the U.S. and Canada, visiting family along the way. They even had occasion to travel to Austria. Helen loved hand work including counted cross-stitch and embroidery. She spent hours making embroidered quilts for all of her great grandchildren. She was also a voracious reader, keeping the Marble Falls Library in business. And as Dwight noted in his diary after their marriage she could really cook!
She is survived by two children, Dennis (Leah) of Columbus, Ohio, and Barbara of Wheat Ridge, Colroado; daughter-in-law Norma of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren, Brenda Marshall (Steve), Eric Lambert, Andrew Lambert (Ginger), Jason Zetmeir, Jon Lambert, Matthew Lambert (Bethany), Jillian Robinson (Douglas); and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Hazel Doran, of Phoenix, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dwight; her son, Frank; and her eight brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be held May 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Marble Falls, Texas. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. that day at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Building Fund or the charity of choice.
