Dennis Allan Maier

November 5, 1944 – August 7, 2018

Our beloved husband, father, and friend Dennis, 73, resident and former mayor of Granite Shoals, Texas, passed away quietly at his home on Lake LBJ.

Dennis grew up in Longview, Texas, and graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in Physics and obtained a master's in Optics from the University of Rochester in 1970. After 20 years of service to his country, he retired as an Air Force Major and continued his work as a leading expert in laser technology for Texas Medical Instruments, TASC-Litton, and Northrop Grumman.

When he finally retired in 2004, Dennis once again felt a duty to serve his community as a volunteer, a city councilman, and ultimately a two-term mayor of his beloved Granite Shoals.

He was an accomplished woodworker, a Master Gardener, and had a love for travel. He also loved bumping into neighbors for a friendly chat or sitting at the end of his dock enjoying the Hill Country sunset with a fishing pole in hand. But his real passion was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Donna; sons Chris (Stacey), Todd, and Brent (Johanna Klees); and five beautiful grandchildren.

A celebration of life gathering will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Granite Shoals from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the Maier family asks instead that you consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
