DA investigates 5th Llano police officer placed on leave

A fifth officer with the Llano Police Department is under investigation by the 33rd/424th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
UPDATE: A Llano County Grand Jury has indicted Burke on three counts of official oppression, according to Llano County Jail documents. On Aug. 14, he turned himself into the jail, along with Llano County Deputy Duncan Roberts, who faces the same indictment in connection with a domestic disturbance call in the Rio Llano subdivision. Burke has resigned his position with Llano PD, and Roberts was reassigned at the sheriff's office. •

Llano city administrators have placed a fifth peace officer on paid leave in lieu of an investigation by the 33rd/424th District Attorney's Office.
On Aug. 9 Llano Police Officer Mark Burke was placed on leave with pay, as prosecutors informed city officials he is under investigation.
“We followed procedures,” Llano City Manager Scott Edmonson said. “(The DA's office) is doing an investigation.”
District Attorney Wiley “Sonny” McAfee said he could not comment on the investigation at this stage in the process.
The officer has been with the city of Llano since April 2018.
Burke joined the list of four other Llano peace officers including former Chief Kevin Ratliff, Sgt. Jared Latta, Patrol Officer Aimee Shannon and Grant Harden, who either remain on or had been placed on leave by the city due to investigations by the DA's office. . . .
