Barbara Coy Martin

September 27, 1930 — March 8, 2019

Barbara Coy Martin, of Georgetown, Kingsland, and Zihuantenjo, Mexico, died March 8, 2019, aged 88, in Georgetown, Texas. Barbara was born Sept. 27, 1930, the daughter of Elsie Gitz and Leeman Maxey Coy in St. Joseph, Missouri. She married Herschel Raye Martin on Jan. 27, 1954. He preceded her in death.

Barbara was a school teacher, having taught school in Missouri, Oklahoma, California and Texas. While living in Plano, Texas, she started the preschool at Faith Lutheran Church. She and Herschel moved to Kingsland, Texas, in 1987. She and Herschel loved to travel, going to the Rhine, Switzerland, Israel, Italy, Australia, Zihantenjo, Mexico as well as many sites and locations in the United States. While a resident of Kingsland, she was active in the Kingsland Chamber of Commerce, Kingsland Aqua Boom, Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority, American Cancer Society, Seton Highland Lakes Hospice, and Genesis Lutheran Church. Her greatest joy was being grandmother and hostess to family and friends at their home on Lake LBJ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herschel; a brother, Robert Coy; a sister, Lois Cohenour; and a grandson, David Martin. She is survived by her children, Mark (Elizabeth) Martin of Cape Girardeau Missouri, Kristin (Martin) Gonzalez of Georgetown; grandchildren, Leah Martin of Georgetown Texas, Rachel (Anthony) Murad of Monett; Missouri, Steven Gonzalez and Daniel Gonzalez both of Georgetown Texas, great-grandchildren, Matthew, Lily, and Melody Murad; nieces, Mary Millet, Joyce Worthington, Barbara (Missy) Butcher, Mikey Coy; and nephew, Steven Coy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to Brookwood in Georgetown.

A memorial service was held at Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown, Sunday, March 10.
