Deward Lavaughn “Punk” Turner

June 9, 1928 — July 1, 2019

Deward Lavaughn “Punk” Turner passed away peacefully on July 1, 2019. D.L. was born on June 9, 1928, at Cow Creek in Travis County, Texas to James Lafayette “Dee” Turner and Ada Annie (Collier) Turner.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Jean (Turner) Ellis and her husband Lee of Grand Junction, Colorado; and two granddaughters, Kathryne Rose Ellis and Emma Lee Ellis, both of Grand Junction, Colorado. He is also survived by one sister, Alene Morris of Bertram, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

D.L. was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (Holloway) Turner; his parents, Dee and Ada Turner; brothers, Dick Turner, Son Turner, and Gordon Turner; sisters, Lucille McAnally, Merle Chambers, Joyce Morris, and Minnie Jo Phelps.

He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather, “PaPa”. Known to most as “Punk”, he was a lifelong resident of Cow Creek with the exception of the time he spent overseas fighting in the Korean War.

He was dedicated to his family and was always a great supporter of the youth in the area through his involvement with youth rodeo and the Burnet County Livestock Show. He was a farmer and rancher for his entire life and happily shared his knowledge to anyone who was willing to accept it.

Many would say he was the most generous and kind man they’ve ever known. He was also the hardest working man you could ever know. He will be dearly missed by so many people.

A Memorial Service in memory of Deward Lavaughn “Punk” Turner will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Burnet, Texas with Ronnie Brooks officiating.
