Michael Wayne Preiss

d. December 7, 2019

Michael Wayne Preiss, 61, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away in the tranquility of the deep woods with a rifle in one hand and fresh game in the other on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019.

A lifelong Texan, Mike was born in Raymondville and, over the next few years, lived in New Braunfels and San Antonio, before his family settled in Marble Falls during his middle school years. He attended Marble Falls High School and, as a young man, began working in construction and home renovation. Over the years, Mike worked as a handyman and construction contractor all over the Texas Hill Country. He owned and operated D & M Glass in Marble Falls for over a decade before he decided to become a full-time contractor. He was good with his hands and brilliant when it came to fixing things.

Mike had tough, calloused hands and a kind, generous heart. He worked hard and enjoyed helping others. He was known for generously investing his time, resources and talents to those in need. Mike loved to cook out on the grill and get together with friends and family. He was known for his famous fried chicken, which he learned to make, along with several other recipes, from watching the Food Network.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, marksman and hunter – a Texan through and through. He had a collection of guns, from large rifles to little pistols, and he could tell you all the details about each one. His happy place was out in the deep woods in a deer stand surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature; this peaceful memory picture is what his family will cling to now that he is gone. This big Texan, with his rough hands and gentle heart, will be dearly missed. But his memory will live on in the smoke of a barbecue grill, the togetherness of friends and the gentle breeze rustling the oak trees.

Mike will be remembered by his daughter, Tracy Underwood and husband Keith; grandson, Evan of Conroe, Texas; daughter, Melissa Preiss of Kingsland, Texas; mother, Margaret Mott of Kingsland, Texas; brother, Tony Preiss and wife Sabrina of New Braunfels, Texas; sister, Resa Harrell of Conroe, Texas; uncle, James Haverda and wife Cindy of Marble Falls; several cousins; nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; and faithful canine companion Whiskey. He will also be remembered by his many great friends, and especially Tony Gliddon and Doug Crawford of Kingsland, Texas. They were like the Three Musketeers, always cutting up and laughing until they made your sides hurt.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Roger Wayne Preiss; maternal grandparents, Albert and Agnes Haverda; paternal grandparents, Bruno and Mildred Preiss; uncle, Leland Floyd Preiss; and aunt, Virginia Preiss.

Per Mike’s request, services will be private, informal, and will probably involve a cookout on the grill. Share your thoughts memories and condolences with the family at PutnamCares.com.

Mike’s care entrusted to Putnam Funeral Home and Crematory, 145 Texas Avenue, Kingsland, Texas 78639. (325) 388-0008.
