District judge crushes state's petition against city of Double Horn

A district judge denied a petition filed by the State Office of the Attorney General's Office April 3 to dissolve the newly-formed city of Double Horn. Defense Attorneys Andy Messer and Patty Akers represented the municipality, referred to the state's lawsuit as "improper."

The 424th Judicial District Grand Jury indicted Bertram Police Chief James Jay (“JJ”) Wilson Oct. 2 on charges of felony aggravated perjury, felony misuse of official information and misdemeanor official oppression, court documents stated.

The charges stemmed from three incident allegations in Burnet County in connection with a dispute over hay ownership, the release of criminal background information and a sworn statement in a drug-related arrest, according to the grand jury indictments.

Burnet County officials contracted with a Fort Worth-based company to haul away eight rusted barrels filled with a dried resin Aug. 28 illegally dumped behind a Joppa Church into the San Gabriel River. Law enforcement officials say illegal dumping cases are piling up in Burnet County.

During the week of Aug. 27, law enforcement reported one state jail felony arrest for illegal dumping on a property just outside Granite Shoals and unveiled two other large-scale dumping indictments – all while crews were in the midst of an un-related cleanup of several barrels illegally dumped behind a church in Joppa.

Tree of Angels ceremony honors victims of violent crime Saturday

The Tree of Angels will be displayed in Marble Falls City Hall again this year following a ceremony to be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. Each angel represents a friend or loved one who was a victim of violent crime.

The Tree of Angels commemorating victims of violent crime in the 33rd and 424th Judicial Districts will again be displayed at Marble Falls City Hall and the local ceremony, forgone last year, will return on Saturday, Dec. 2.

The ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. at the Marble Falls Church of Christ, 711 Broadway Street.
