Working in conjunction with other local agencies, Burnet County Sheriff's deputies in the Special Operations Unit have arrested 17 individuals in Burnet and Llano counties as part of a month-long undercover investigation targeting methamphetamine dealers in the two counties that culminated in a raid Thursday at multiple locations.

Burnet County Sheriff Calvin Boyd said a total of 31 warrants were obtained on the 17 individuals arresed, charging each with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in penalty group 1, more than one gram but less than four grams.

Each charge is a second-degree felony under Texas Penal Code, Chapter 481.112(c), punishable by a prison sentence of two to 20 years and a $10,000 fine.

“This represents a significant impact on the local methamphetamine supply network,” Boyd said.

Car fire corpse still unidentified

By Alexandria Randolph

Burnet County officials are still waiting to get DNA results back on a body that was found burned in a mysterious car fire on June 20.

The vehicle, believed to be a Kia Soul, was discovered off the road next to the southbound lane in the 3800 block of County Road 202 on that Monday evening. A deceased man was inside.

The man was burned so extensively that authorities were at first uncertain of the gender, and sent the body to the Travis County Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy and DNA test to identify him.

However, Burnet County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Joey Canady said in June he didn't feel foul play was involved.

“It could be six months before we know anything,” said Lisa Whitehead, Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2, in which the body was discovered. “That's just how long these DNA tests take.”

In response to the July 7 shooting that took five Dallas police lives last week, Burnet County residents rallied around the local law enforcement teams to show their support for the men and women in uniform.
Burnet city police got a special surprise on Friday, July 8, when four-year-old Leilani Cullen brought $5 gift cards from MOJO’s Coffee for each officer as well as Wells Fargo Bank delivering breakfast for the team.
“The City of Burnet has always shown their support for our police department, it doesn’t take a shooting to know that they always back us,” said Burnet Chief of Police Paul Nelson.
“But when something like this occurs and these people take their time out to show us how much they support us, makes it an honor to serve this community and we greatly appreciate it,”
