The Horseshoe Bay Police Department has arrested four former Horseshoe Bay Resort employees connected to a theft ring that targeted the Resort Food and Beverage Department.

Police were contacted by resort executives after an internal audit revealed funds began missing from sales receipts in the Yacht Club Restaurant February of 2017. The resulting audit estimated that more than $22,000 was stolen from February -September of 2017.

Sitting on a high bluff, overlooking Lake LBJ and the Colorado River in the distance, the Conrad Fuchs House (pronounced Fox) is the oldest structure in Horseshoe Bay. Built of local field stone, this pioneer-style German home served not only as the family's homestead, but also as post office and schoolhouse for a burgeoning community of German settlers in the south end of Burnet County.

The City of Horseshoe Bay may not be too happy with its city secretary.

The reason: The secretary, Teresa Moore, is retiring at the end of this month after being the only city secretary in the city’s history.

Moore was named secretary in 2006, when the job of city administrator-city secretary was divided. She’s held that position ever since. In fact, even before then, she was assistant to the administrator at the municipal utility district that preceded formation of the city.

“I’ve worked with every official who’s ever been with the city,” Moore smiled.

She’s had her own impact, too.

In a move Mayor Steve Jordan called “a long time coming,” Horseshoe Bay city council members on Tuesday, July 19 authorized City Manager Stan R. Farmer to negotiate a contract to build a $3.5 million expansion to the city’s wast water treatment plant. Engineering fees, equipment and materials will bring the total cost to $4.2 million, the council waste told.
At the same meeting, the council voted to switch the city’s trash pickup contractor from Progressive to Republic. Though Republic was the low bidder on the trash pickup contract, the cost will still rise slightly, the council heard.
The city had investigated expanding and improving the west water treatment plant as long ago as 2009, Community Services Director Jeffrey Koska said. At that time, the estimated total cost was $4 million, he said.
