CWS presents Citizen of the Year

Rex Holloway was named Cottonwood Shores Citizen of the Year at the July 10 meeting of the  Cottonwood Shores City Council and he will be presented the award at the council's meeting Thursday, Aug. 3.

Holloway currently serves on the city's Board of Adjustment and is vice chairman of the Parks Committee.

“He has worked tirelessly for new playground equipment, and the addition of the splash pad and Memorial Day's grand opening with hotdogs and tee shirts for the kids,” said City Administrator Sheila Moore. “He also attends most city council meetings.”

'Annie Get Your Gun' is on stage at HCCT

The ever-popular musical “Annie Get Your Gun” has been playing to a packed house since opening Thursday, July 21, at Hill Country Community Theatre in Cottonwood Shores.
Performances continue through July 31, with Thursday-Friday-Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:15 p.m.
Wendy Ferrell is the director of the local production of the fictional account of Annie Oakley, written by Herbert and Dorothy Fields, with music by Irving Berlin.That music has taken on a timeless life in songs such as “There's No Business Like Show Business", "Doin' What Comes Natur'lly", "You Can't Get a Man with a Gun", "They Say It's Wonderful,”  "Anything You Can Do,” and “Sun in the Morning.”

Lakes area Lions combine roars

Lion Paul Kronbergs, incoming president of the new Spicewood & Highland Lakes Lions Club, receives his Boss Lion hat from outgoing Marble Falls Noon Lions Club President Lion Edna Lowry. Her club, now merged with the Spicewood Lions Club will draw members from 200 square miles of the Highland Lakes area.

Two local clubs of Lions International began roaring together this month.

On July 1, the Marble Falls Noon Lions Club and the Spicewood Lions Club merged to form the Spicewood & Highland Lakes Lions Club.

The merger gives both clubs greater resources to serve the residents of more than 200 square miles now encompassed by the new club.

Cottonwood Shores receives $19,100 grant

The City of Cottonwood Shores receives a $19,100 grant to for a new police patrol vehicle from the LCRA and Pedernales Electric Cooperative. The grant is part of LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program. At the presentation on Friday, April 22, from left, are Karrie Cummings, Cottonwood Shores financial director and grant administrator; Christopher Bieze, Cottonwood Shores police chief; Sheila Moore, Cottonwood Shores city administrator; Lori A. Berger, LCRA Board member; Donald Orr, Cottonwood Shores mayor; and Matthew Gonzales, PEC representative.

The City of Cottonwood Shores will soon have a new police patrol vehicle thanks to a $19,100 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC).
The new patrol vehicle will help the city schedule officers and improve response time to emergency calls.
“The City of Cottonwood Shores is grateful to LCRA for the grant, but no one is more excited than our police
officers,” said Sheila Moore, Cottonwood Shores city administrator. “The city currently has three older vehicles,
one with more than 100,000 miles on it that constantly needs repairs. The police department is looking forward
to having a new dependable vehicle that is better suited to the city’s terrain.”
The new vehicle will enhance the city’s commitment to public safety. Cottonwood Shores established its police
department in 2006. Currently, four officers serve the city’s 1,300 residents.

Folks living in Cottonwood Shores can’t help but notice the dueling city council campaign posters at the end of Dutch Leming Lane. Citizens there will be deciding the composition of their city council on Election Day on May 7 with two contested seats. For Place 3, Mary Ann Plumley is challenging Councilwoman Cheryl (Cheri) Mott Trinidad.
