GOP candidate forum in Burnet Thursday, Feb. 1

Republican candidates in two contested Burnet County March 6 primary races will appear at a 6:30 p.m. political forum Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Burnet Community Center, 401 E. Jackson.

The event is sponsored by the Burnet Chamber of Commerce, the Burnet Bulletin and the Burnet County Republican Club, whose member will be serving cookies to guests, beginning at 6 p.m.

There are three candidates in the race for Precinct 2 Commissioner, currently held by Russell Graeter, who did not seek re-election. Candidates include, in alphabetical order by last name, Damon Beierle, Ryan Rowney and Tom Stephens.

Also contested is the race for Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace, currently held by Peggy Shell Simon, who also did not seek re-election. Candidates in this race include Carey Hendrick, Jane Marie Hurst and Jeff Sellers.

HSB election filing closes Aug. 21

Horseshoe Bay City Council has called for a general election in November to elect a mayor and two council members and a special election the same day to decide whether the city will continue to collect sales tax for municipal street repair and maintenance.

The election will be held Nov. 7 and the first official day to file for a spot on the ballot is July 22. However, since that day is a Saturday and City Secretary Kerri Craig's office will not be open, the first day applications will be accepted will be Monday, July 24. The last day to file for election is Aug. 21.

Mayor Steve Jordan and council members Cynthia Clinesmith and Reagan Lambert hold the positions that are up for election this year. If only one candidate files for mayor and two candidates file for council positions, the city can cancel the general election at its Aug. 29 council meeting.

Granite Shoals Police Chief Gary Boshears was elected to Place 1 of the Marble Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees, while Tony Satsky and Cheryl Mott Trinidad won seats on the Cottonwood Shores City Council in today's school board and municipal elections.

Early voting starts April 25 in MFISD board election

 

Marble Falls Independent School District (MFISD) will be holding its Board Trustee Elections from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday, May 7.

 

Voters in Marble Falls, Granite Shoals, Highland Haven, Spicewood and Smithwick will be casting their votes for Place 1 and Place 2 on the board. In Place 1, Jim Coursey, Gary Boshears and Lenwood Nelson are vying for the Place 1 position. In Place 2, Karl Westerman, current trustee, is running unopposed.

Early voting is from April 25-May 3, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. Polling locations will be located at the Courthouse Annex at 810 Steve Hawkins in Marble Falls and the Burnet County Courthouse at 220 S. Pierce in Burnet.
