Women 2 Women returns March 4

The 2nd Annual Women 2 Women health conference will take place Saturday, March 4.

Sponsored by the Highland Lakes Health Partnership, the focus of the conference is health care issues and concerns facing women.

It will be going on from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Hill Country Fellowship, 200 Houston Clinton Drive, in Burnet.

“We will have presentations from seven guest speakers throughout the day,” said chairwoman Janet Anderson RN, NP. “The topics will be depression, bladder infections, balance, emplowerment, breast cancer resources, fibromyalgia and easy, healthy meals and snacks”

Burnet County programs available for womenand their families also will be featured as well as vendors from area businesses and organizations offering health education and recources.

Lunch is included in the $10 registration fee.

Back to School Blast takes off Aug. 6

Children in need from all over the lakes area will be welcomed Saturday morning, Aug. 6, to the Back to School Blast (B2SB), sponsored by Highland Lakes Health Partnership (HLHP).

The event will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Marble Falls Middle School, 1511 Pony Drive, behind the H-E-B store and a health fair has been added to this 6th annual event.

Inside the school gymnasium will be more than 1,500 back packs full of school supplies, along with shoes and socks and services for students in PreK – 12th grade, all sponsored by area churches and the Highland Lakes Health Partnership.

“This is not limited to children in the Marble Falls Independent School District,” said Cathy Lemlyn, community outreach coordinator for Bluebonnet Trails Community Services, an HLHP member. “Twenty percent of about 2,000 people who came last year were from outside town.”

Saturday shoe drive aims for 1,500 pair

A Walmart associate rings of shoes to be added to community donations of gently used shoes this Saturday, July 23, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Church of Christ on Broadway Street. The goal is shoes up to adult size 13 for 1,500 school kids in need.

A shoe drive at the Marble Falls Church of Christ Saturday, July 23, will be the first step in getting children in need ready for the new school year.

The drive, sponsored by the Highland Lakes Health Partnership Children's Coalition, will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m.at the church at 711 Broadway Street. The shoes will be available, first-come-first-served, at the big Back to School Blast at Marble Falls Middle School at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6.

Register now for women's health conference Saturday, March 12

Let's talk...Women 2 Women is a women's health conference taking place Saturday, March 12, and organizers are asking for a call in advance to reserve a sandwich lunch to round out visits to the event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The fun, educational meeting with people who provide services for women throughout this area will include subjects such as heart attack in women, vaccines for adults, incontinence and dealing with abuse and introduce the participants to Use It Or Lose It Exercise, healthy eating habits and how to get the most out of 15-minute meetings with their doctors.
