Citizens have one more chance on Tuesday, April 12, to review the work on a Comprehensive Plan Update for the City of Marble Falls.

An open house is set for 6 p.m. at Lakeside Pavilion, 307 Buena Vista Drive.

The Marble Falls City Council on Tuesday night, March 1, received a solid report from Pattillo, Brown & Hill, the company that audited city finances for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2015.

"We are very glad to havereceived an unqualified opinion," said Margie Cardenas, city financial director.

"The city's net assets exceeded liabilities by $24.7 million for Fiscal Year 2015 (FY 2015)," said Chris Pruitt, C.P.A. for the auditing firm. "Your general fund is up $220,591. The increase was due mainly to an increase in sales taxes and property taxes for FY 2015."

"The city's largest source of revenue in the general fund is sales tax," Pruitt said. "The city realized an increase of six perdent from the prior year's revenue--from $5,399,759 to $5,577124. The 2016 estimate is conservatively projected at $5,744,437."

The Marble Falls City Council devoted much of their meeting Tuesday night, Feb. 16, to informational presentations.

Jo Karr Tedder, president of Central Texas Water Coalition, reported on work of the LCRA. Mark Mayfield, president and chief executive officer of Texas Housing Foundation (THF) reported on the Marble Falls Housing Authority. And, officers of the Marble Falls Police Department provided the council updates on current topics of interest. MFPD Chief Mark Whitacre, praised the expertise and professionalism of the presenters, Capt. Glenn Hanson, Lt. Steve Eckstein, Lt. Tom Dillard and Sgt. Justin Boucher.

At the Marble Falls City Council Tuesday night, Mayor John Packer proclaimed Feb. 21-27 National Engineers Week.

Mark Mayfield updated the council on the Marble Falls Housing Authority.

The council also received a review of the current state of wildlife ordinances in the surrounding area and on laws regarding drones over city airspace, all provided by the Marble Falls Police Department. For the full story, see the Friday, Feb. 19, edition of The Highlander.

Marble Falls citizens will have the opportunity to learn along with their city council members Tuesday night, Feb. 16, when two topics of current interest appear on the agenda for discussion, rather than action--feeding wildlife and flying drones inside the city.

Short term rentals, the rentals of residential property for less than 30 days that has become a hot button issue in some cities, emerged quietly Tuesday, Feb. 2, in a joint workshop of the Marble Falls City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission.

In a cost share agreement between Faith Academy and the City of Marble Falls, the school will have better fire protection and the city will get a bargain in infrastructure into its extraterritorial jurisdiction. 

As approved by the Marble Falls City Council Tuesday night, Feb. 2, Faith Academy will pay an estimated at $162,000 toward a new water main to the school and the city will add $40,000 to bring the line from proposed 4-6-inch service to the requisite eight-inch main.
