Two Marble Falls High School senior runners laid the foundation for the future of the cross country program with their performances at the UIL State cross country meet on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Round Rock.

The Mustangs boys team finished 13th in State out of 16 teams, led by senior Bryer Atkinson. Atkinson finished 45th overall with a personal best time of 15:54.27 – a pace of 5:07 per mile.

Senior Ambrie Lizcano finished the girls' 5,000-meter race 140th with a time of 20:56.53 while fighting a sinus infection.

Marble Falls cross country head coach Chris Schrader's approach to training may be unorthodox to some, but the results are hard to argue.

The Mustangs boys team qualified for the UIL 5A State cross country meet with a fourth-place finish at Regionals on Oct. 28 in Corpus Christi; two individual girls runners – Ambrie Lizcano and Bailey Goggans – also punched their ticket to the State meet.

The Mustangs had only three runners qualify for the final meet last season – Goggans, Jaden Johnson and Bryer Atkinson. The team has seen improvement across the board this season under Schrader.
