Marble Falls Triathlon is Sunday, registration closes today, July 12

A new bridge will be the backdrop for swimmers in the Marble Falls Triathlon Sunday, July 16, but the hills faced by bikers remain the same grueling test.

 

 

The 17th annual Marble Falls Triathlon will be Sunday, July 16.

Online registration will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12. The event’s website is at www.marblefallstri.com.

The triathlon will consist of two races:

Intermediate — One-kilometer swim, 23-mile bicycle ride and 4.4-mile run.

Sprint Distance — 500-meter swim, 12-mile bike and two-mile run.

After registration, the triathlon will begin at 7 a.m. on Sunday with the Intermediate distance. It begins with men ages 34 and under; men ages 35-49; women 39 and under; men ages 50 and above and “Clydesdales” (men weighing 200 pounds or more); then women 40 and older, “Athenas” (women weighing 150 pounds or more) and Relays (Mens, Womens and Mixed).

At 7:30 a.m., the Sprint Distance begins with the same order of races as above.

Hoover represents USA in European soccer tour

Marble Fall High School 2016 grad Macy Hoover, dauaghter of soccer coach Rick Hoover, takes a corner kick during a match in her senior year. Hoover has been invited to represent the United States as part of the international travel team Stars and Stripes.

Macy Hoover of Marble Falls has been invited to travel Europe and play in multiple soccer tournaments and friendly matches as she will be representing the USA playing for the “Stars-n-Stripes” international travel team.

She started her 18-day tour of Europe Thursday July 6. The highlight of the trip will be the opportunity to represent USA in the world’s largest youth tournament in Sweden, the “Gothia Cup.”

The Gothia Cup will have over 75 nations represented and is played in front of huge crowds, in huge stadiums. Typically there are about 40,000 people in attendance to the games.

“I’m really excited about it,’’ Hoover said. “It’s going to be a long flight.’’

The tour begins in Germany where they will stay five days and play several matches against the German teams. Then they travel to Denmark for five days where they will participate in the “Denmark Cup” and have the opportunity to play some of the best teams throughout Denmark.
