School districts all have circumstances that require creativity and ingenuity to effectively teach their students. In a modern world, technology can be used to assist in those endeavors, and nobody knows that better than Spicewood Elementary gifted and talented teacher Mary Groth.

Marble Falls discusses relocating STEAM Academy

Marble Falls schools adds STEAM to the learning process

STEAM Academy students from Marble Falls ISD fuse science, technology, engineering, math and the arts to make learning fun and applicable to the real world.

Marble Falls ISD has introduced STEAM Academy for the 2018/19 school year. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

The first program consists of approximately 75 6th-grade students, with the program coordinated out of Spicewood Elementary School. 

Each year school officials plan to add another grade of students until the program includes 8th grade students.  The goal of the STEAM Academy is "to offer integrated learning of the core academics through the lens of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math." 

Coordinators believe that learning should be engaging and cross-curricular while focusing on real-world learning opportunities. 

The daily schedule will offer combined academic classes, art, music theater, pe, technology, Project Lead the Way, as well as a specific PBL (problem based learning) class.

Spicewood students are 'on the air'

Spicewood Elementary School (SES) students made an appearance on YouTube.com last week.

They took vision, mission, and motto statements and translated them into a video.

“We began the process by discussing and coming to a consensus on our core values as a campus,” said Sonya Smith, an SES instructional coach. “The staff discussed our campus needs and dreams for the future.”

They adopted the district motto, "Learners today...Leaders tomorrow...Mustangs Forever!", to emphasize unity with Marble Falls Independent School District (MFISD).

Children in foster care often have to move from home to home, toting their personal items in plastic bags along the way. Sometimes they don’t even sleep on the same pillow as they did the night before.

Children in the newly-0formed Leadership Club at Spicewood Elementary helped fellow youngsters by holding a donation drive for personal care items, ranging from socks to shampoo, as part of the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for the Highland Lakes Area project known as the CASA Case Project, a partnership with the First Baptist Church of Marble Falls.
