Horseshoe City Council candidates will get a chance to connect with potential voters during a candidate forum on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The event will be held at the Horseshoe Bay Resort Yacht Club Ballroom from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The resort will provide round-trip shuttle service between the hotel to the Yacht Club, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Horseshoe Bay Resort is in the midst of a gigantic economic undertaking — a $60 million, multi-year capital improvements plan expected to solidify the legendary resort's reputation as the destination of choice for visitors to the Texas Hill Country.

Resort vice chairman, president and chief executive officer Ron Lynn Mitchell recently presented an update on the capital improvements plan to members of the Horseshoe Bay City Council.

“The capital program is guided by a set of ownership goals, that being the refinement of existing amenities and construction of compelling new amenities reflecting current lifestyle patterns of the club membership and destination guests, while respectful of the legendary heritage of the resort’s development,” Mitchell said.

The Horseshoe Bay Police Department has arrested four former Horseshoe Bay Resort employees connected to a theft ring that targeted the Resort Food and Beverage Department.

Police were contacted by resort executives after an internal audit revealed funds began missing from sales receipts in the Yacht Club Restaurant February of 2017. The resulting audit estimated that more than $22,000 was stolen from February -September of 2017.

Playing 36 holes of golf in a day can be physically taxing, but a local golf pro is planning to play 108 holes in one day — equivalent of six rounds of gold — for a good cause.

Gary D. Parsons, head golf professional at Horseshoe Bay Resort’s Cap Rock Golf Facility, will play 108 holes of golf July 31 to raise money for the Southern Texas PGA Foundation and its programs.

Parsons, a former editor of The Highlander. selected Marble Falls’ St. Frederick Baptist Church Meals Program as his charity to receive 30 percent of proceeds raised during the event.

“I’m looking forward to doing this again. This will be my sixth year to participate in the STPGA fundraiser,” Parsons said. “This event gives me an opportunity to continue my support of local charities and the good work St. Fredericks does for the Marble Falls community.”

Ownership of the AAA Four Diamond Horseshoe Bay Resort, the Jaffe Group, has entered into a management agreement with Crescent Hotels & Resorts that will lead to a multi-million dollar expansion.
Crescent, based in Fairfax, Virginia, is a nationally recognized operator of hotels and resorts with properties throughout Unites States and Canada. The announcement of the Aug. 3 agreement concludes a two-year exhaustive search by ownership of the resort for an operator who showed the talent and experience required to run Horseshoe Bay Resort.
“We are thrilled to have Crescent Hotels & Resorts at Horseshoe Bay Resort,” said M.D. Jaffe, Jr., chairman of Horseshoe Bay Resort. “We believe that Crescent is the correct choice for Horseshoe Bay Resort and we look forward to what they will do here with their vast knowledge and expertise in the hotel and resort industry.”

The 4th Annual Balloons Over Horseshoe Bay Resort is set to become an Easter weekend tradition for folks from all over the state. Festivities start Friday evening, March 25, and end Sunday, March 27 (for VIP package holders.)

Although hot air balloons are the focus and highlight of the occasion, the festival also features music, food, a crafts fair, skydivers and a powered parachute demonstration.

For children, there is also face painting, a rock climbing wall, bungee trampoline and the Safari Greg Animal Show.
