The teams are now holding auditions ahead of their season that starts in July with learning dance routines to perform with the MFHS Mustang Band, football routines and pep rally dances, said Cristi Gilpin, dance teacher and director of the Starlettes and JV Stars.

At the Crowd Pleasers Showcase on Feb. 20, the JV Stars won Super Sweepstakes, Best in Contemporary, Jazz and Military and first runner-up overall.

Their varsity counterparts, the Starlettes, likewise won top awards, bringing home: Super Sweepstakes, Best in Contemporary and first runner-up in Lyrical.

Just a week later, on Feb. 27, the dancers won big in another contest, the Showtime International Dance Competition in DeSoto.

At that competition, the JV Stars won Sweepstakes and the Judges Award, Best in Jazz and Runner-up in Contemporary, while the Starlettes won Sweepstakes and the Judges Award, Best in Jazz, Best in Lyrical and Runner-up in Contemporary. They won Grand Champion for X-Small Team.

“I’m so proud of how hard the Starlettes and JV Stars have worked this year,” Gilpin said. She said contest season has been rewarding for her as director.

“It’s been amazing to see each dancer grow and be challenged with different styles of choreography,” Gilpin said. “This is evident with the awards they won.”

An audition clinic will be held March 21-23 from 4-5:30 p.m. at the MFHS Auditorium.

Gilpin added the dancers are working on the annual Spring Show that will be May 6-7 at 7 p.m. in the MFHS Auditorium.

“Everyone is invited to come see a great show with amazing talent,” Gilpin said.
