Friday rains may the last for the Highland Lakes for a while, with the last chance of a shower fading after Saturday morning.
Sunny, dry and warm weather is forecast Sunday through Tuesday as a weak ridge of high pressure sets up across Texas, according to the forecast by Bob Rose, chief meteorologist for the Lower Colorado River Authority. Breezy west and southwesterly winds with speeds of 10-15 mph are forecast all 3 days, allowing temperatures to warm well into the 80s, despite cool mornings, he said.
A weak Canadian cold front is forecast to sweep south across the region Wednesday afternoon, bringing a blast of slightly cooler, but likely rainless, air that should last through the end of the week and into the next weekend.
While gages in the immediate Marble Falls area did not fill much more than 2 inches during recent rains, other areas saw enough since Monday to total as much as 4 inches. San Saba and Lampasas counties were still under a flood warning Friday morning.
As a result, Lake Buchanan is the highest level since 2008 and Lake Travis, since 2010, and both are expected to continue to slowly rise over Saturday. Runoff from storms has caused a rise in the Colorado River and its tributaries downstream of the Highland Lakes, the LCRA reported.
