A newsletter and a link to a community survey about a potential north-south Colorado River crossing below Wirtz Dam have been launched by the Capitol Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) and two public meetings have been scheduled on the topic.

When CAMPO met with Highland Lakes governmental representatives in Marble Falls on Sept. 9, staff members were finalizing the survey to gather public opinion on the project. In the weeks since and with plans to continue through November, they have moved through public events such as FiestaJAM and the Burnet Bluegrass Festival discussing the project with the people they met.

Now, two public meetings will take that interface a step further. The open house discussions to share information and gather input each will take place from 4-7 p.m.

On Oct. 26, CAMPO representatives will be at Quail Point Community Center, 107 Twilight Lane, in Horseshoe Bay.

On Nov. 3, they will be at Lakeside Pavilion, 305 Buena Vista Drive, in Marble Falls.

“We would love to hear from you,” the newsletter invites. “Contact us by phone, 512-234-0204, or email, wirtzdam@campotexas.org, and visit our webpage, campotexas.org/wirtzdam, for more.”

The Wirtz Dam Road Community Outreach Program is being conducted in partnership with Burnet County and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

CAMPO allocated $75,000 for study a year ago. The kinds of information being gathered aims at helping area partners plan for the growing needs of the community, growth projections, growth in tourism and seasonal traffic, existing river crossings and traffic flow. A report of all input will be shared in December.

“If you are affiliated with a group, neighborhood or organization that meets regularly, we can give presentations, distribute information, or simply visit about the program,” Doise Miers, CAMPO public information officer. “Plan to join us for an open house and, if you are interested, receive email updates.

“If you have questions, send them our way and we will do our best to provide additional information,” Miers added. “All general comments received via email, at meetings and in the survey will be included in our final report in December.

“The survey takes less than 10 minutes and helps us understand your thoughts and preferences,” she said. “And, it is available in Spanish, if you prefer.”
