As the temperatures heat up, Marble Falls city staff have created a program to help youngsters cool off this summer, while adhering to COVID-19 protocols from the state.

“We are planning to have pool hours as far as June and then also July,” City Manager Mike Hodge told city council members May 22. “We will be complying to the governor's order.

“We'll shoot for 25 percent (occupancy),” he added.

The city of Marble Falls will utilize more than $2 million in grant funding to help solve bank erosion and fortify areas around certain water crossings, necessitated by the October 2018 flood.

To help pay for the overall cost of fixing problems, including “bank stabilization projects” in the area of Johnson Park and Backbone Creek, the city of Marble Falls entered into a project agreement with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Natural Resources Conservancy Service (NRCS) and Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program.

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) will begin making routine water releases at Max Starcke Dam in Marble Falls next month, the agency announced this week.

A crew, on behalf of a boat owner, towed a vessel Feb. 5 from the shoreline of Lake Marble Falls, after a weekend mishap on the waterway near the waterside of a restaurant, officials said.

The incident occurred during the day Feb. 2 adjacent to Lakeside Park.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has added Lake Marble Falls and Granger Lake to the statewide list of lakes infested with invasive zebra mussels after discovering established, reproducing populations in the lakes this fall.

Marble Falls city officials indicated Nov. 19 they may work with property owners, in particular the John Kemper family, to delay and/or modify a plan to potentially annex several acres of land into the city limits.

City staff has proposed annexation of 64 acres of Kemper's property, which includes a two-acre homestead tract, located south of Lake Marble Falls on the eastern portion of the city limits.

Marble Falls city officials have launched an online water utility portal to arm customers with ways to detect and prevent water loss due to leaks or untracked usage and to promote conservation.

The WaterSmart platform available on the city's website is described as “a cloud-based, customer self-service and engagement platform.”

“(The platform is) proven to reduce costs, improve operational efficiency, and increase customer satisfaction by more than 25 percent,” stated City Manager Mike Hodge in a press release. . .
