Burnet County Area Fair is 'Hill Country Proud' is underway

The Burnet County Area Fair is underway, through Saturday, June 10, with free family fun at the Burnet Community Center, 401 East Jackson Street in Burnet.

Entries have been invited from Burnet, Bell, Blanco, Lampasas, Llano, San Saba, Travis and Williamson counties.

Opening Ceremonies were the official start at 10 a.m. Friday, June 9, with the Hill Country Blenders singing the Star Spangle Banner and other songs fitting this year's theme: "Hill Country Proud."

In the foundation building a quilting demonstration began at 10:30 a.m. Linda Wells, the AgriLife Extension Agent, will host a cooking demonstration, “Hill Country Foods that can make us proud.”

Starting at 4 p.m., awards will be presented with photo opportunities for the Best of divisions and sweepstakes winners. At 7 p.m. is the 4-H fashion review.

To be exhibited in the community building will be: the Country Store; the Temple Beekeepers, answering questions and displaying a glass bee hive with working bees; the Bluebonnet Button Club will display buttons and evaluate buttons brought in by the public, and many more exhibits.

On Saturday, the fair opens to the public at 9 a.m. Vendors will be arrayed outside in front of the community center. The Burnet County Historical and Genealogy Society will present a program at 10 a.m.

At the Lake Area Rods and Classics Car Club Show visitors can vote for a “People's Choice Award.”

Terri Locke will be providing the music for fair. The Marble Falls Square Dancers will be dancing and the Beachers will be performing their artistic lawn chair routine for everyone’s enjoyment.

The Burnet County 4-H Club will host a barbeque lunch, the plates are $10 at the door for the main fundraiser for 4-H projects.

The Austin Steam Train will arrive at the Burnet Depot for fair about 11 a.m. and, at 1:30 p.m., the Burnet Gunfighters will put on a show at the Old Town Stage.

The fair will close at 4 p.m. Saturday.

“We hope everyone will come and enjoy the fair,” said the Burnet County Area Fair Committee. “And, thanks to all our supporters and donors for helping make this a free family fun event.”
