Llano County Commissioners honor first responders

Membership is not limited to 100 people and yearly memberships have several levels of sponsorship available for businesses and individuals. The scholarship information was also incorrect. Lllano County commissioners agreed Monday to name July as a month to recognize the work of first responders.
A resolution prepared by the Hill Country 100 Club was approved by commissioners court.
Club President Jay C. Ward put it this way in regards to first responders: “You’ve got our back, so we’ve got yours.”
Ward said the club covers Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas and Llano counties.
The Hill Country 100 Club is an all volunteer organization with the primary purpose to support activities necessary to help families of first responders who are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty, creating an untimely financial burden.
Ward said the first such club was started in Houston in 1951 and to date 74 Texas counties are covered by 100 clubs.
Any business or individual interested in supporting the Club are welcomed. Individual memberships in the Hill Country 100 Club are available for $100 per year with lifetime memberships available for $1,000 - or four payments of $250 each. Business memberships are $250 per year with lifetime memberships available for $2,500 - or four payments of $625 each. First responder memberships are available for $50 per year with lifetime memberships available for $500 - or four payments of $125 each.
The Club also sponsors a scholarship program. Scholarships are available to high school students within the region who want to pursue a career in any of the listed first responder fields police, fire and emergency medical service. Each year the organization seeks out those students who qualify with a minimum GPA of 2.8 to apply for a $1,000 per semester scholarship, with a $2,000 per year maximum. Any student who wishes to be considered for one of the scholarships should make application through the particular school’s counselor who oversees scholarship applications. Once applications are received, they will be reviewed by the Hill Country 100 Club Board of Directors and applicants selected will be notified by the board.
“We are excited to be able to continue our annual scholarship program to those students interested in pursuing a career as a police officer, fire fighter, or EMS member,” said Ward.
