MFHS Theatre qualifies 11 for Nationals

The Marble Falls High School theater troupe won big at the Texas Thespian Festival during the Thanksgiving breat. Eleven students qualified for national competition.

Marble Falls High School’s thespian troupe qualified 11 students competing in the Texas Thespian Festival in Grapevine during the Thanksgiving break for the National competition at the University of Nebraska in June 2018.

The Nov. 18 Texas Thespian Festival featured 8,000 theatre students from around Texas competing in group and individual Events.

“We are so excited about our performance this year,” said Jon Clark, MFHS Theatre Director. “Our set design team comprised of Ben Goad, Connor Bingaman, Finn Fischer and Rowan Grossman placed second in the State. This is a first for an MFHS team to place a team in the top three in the state!”

Judges ranked 11 of the 28 MFHS students competing in individual events as Superior, qualifying them for National competition:

  • In Duet Acting, Charles McLean and David Cowan earned a Superior rating and are National Qualifiers. They achieved perfect scores from their judges and were main stage performance finalists.

  • In Costume Design, Madisyn Caraway achieved a Superior rating and is a National Qualifier. She achieved perfect scores from her judges and her designs were chosen to be displayed on main stage at the closing ceremonies.

  • In Duet Musical, Christine Ashbaugh and Kali Thompson earned a Superior rating and are National Qualifiers.

  • In Duet Acting, Gigi Goff and Sydney Kelley earned a Superior rating and are National Qualifiers.

  • In Set Design, Derek Schumacher earned a Superior rating and is a National Qualifier.

  • In Set Design Connor Bingaman earned a Superior rating and is a National Qualifier.

  • In Costume Construction, Finn Fischer earned a Superior rating and is a National Qualifier.

  • In Lighting Design, Ben Goad earned a Superior rating of Superior and is a National Qualifier.
