The City of Meadowlakes has joined the ranks of cities that will not have to hold an election, leaving only Granite Shoals and Bertram with May 5 balloting.

Mike Scott, who had announced he would run against incumbent Mike Barry, withdrawn from the race last week.

Since James Woods had stepped out when Mary Ann Raesener announced her intention to run again, the council make up is settled. Incumbents Reasener, Barry and Jerry Drummond will continue to serve.

Granite Shoals

In Granite Shoals, The Highlander will sponsor a forum for candidates in the two contested races.

The forum will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the fire hall, 8410 West Ranch to Market Road 1431.

The withdrawal Feb. 22 of Michael Steenbergen from the race for Place 4 on the city council has left Terry Scott and Ryan Wolters to the contest.

Place 2 incumbent Shirley King has been challenged by Bruce A. Jones.

The election will be centralized at the fire hall, according to Granite Shoals City Secretary Elaine Simpson.

Bertram

Bertram voters will be making choices. Council member Adam Warden and Danielle Armknecht filed for the mayor's seat early on. But the at-large election for city council now will be for two of three candidates—incumbent Kim Klose, Jane Scheidler and Cynthia Anderson.

Others cancellations

Other elections to be cancelled without a contest are:

  • Marble Falls, where Celia Dale Merrill filed for the unexpired term of Place 4, incumbents Craig Magerkurth for Place 1, William (Dee) Haddock (now in Place 4) for Place 3 and Richard Westerman for Place 5.

  • Cottonwood Shores, where Michel Hibdon filed for the unexpired term of Place 4. Gary Parsons filed for Place 1; Mayor Pro Tem Cheri Trinidad filed for re-election to Place 3 and Roger Wayson, now serving in Place 4, filed for Place 5.

  • Highland Haven will re-seat unchallenged incumbents Olan Kelley as mayor and Don Hagans and Terry Nuss as aldermen.

  • Burnet will seat a new council member, Mary Jane Shanes, with incumbents Danny Lester and Joyce Laudenschlager.

  • Marble Falls Independent School District (MFISD) Board of Trustees will re-seat incumbents: Alex Payson for Place 5, Kevin Naumann for Place 6 and Kevin K. Virdell for Place 7.

  • Burnet Consolidated Independent School District (BCISD) Board of Trustees, where incumbent Jeff Hullum withdrew for Place 4, will see Ross Behrens in that seat, and incumbents Angela Moore in Place 2 and Robby Robertson in Place 6.
