Ropes Challenge Course complete at Phoenix Center future site

The ropes challenge course was recently completed at the future site of the Phoenix Center in Horseshoe Bay. The course is designed to provide self-esteem and a sense of achievement for someone trying to overcome a history of trauma or adversity.

Last month, construction of the ropes challenge course was completed on Phoenix Center’s future site in Horseshoe Bay.
In November of 2017, Phoenix Center, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides mental health care to local children and families, acquired 77 acres to serve as the site of their future campus to include a state-of-the-art mental health clinic, equine therapy center, therapeutic camp facilities and a ropes challenge course.
The ropes challenge course was built by Ropes Works Inc. and will be utilized throughout the year in Phoenix Center programs. The high ropes course includes two zip lines, a "giant swing," a rock-climbing wall and other ropes challenge elements off the main tower structure. The ropes course is also available as a community resource for local schools, organizations and businesses. Additionally, completing a high ropes course instills a sense of achievement and self-efficacy in an individual, which can make a significant difference for someone trying to overcome a past history of trauma or adversity.
The Phoenix Center’s future site is located two miles from the Highway 281 and 71 intersection at 3340 W SH 71, Horseshoe Bay. The entrance is off of Highway 71 close to Baylor Scott & White Hospital.
In October 2015, the Phoenix Center launched a 5-year capital campaign to purchase land, build a new trauma facility, start a year-round equine therapy program, construct therapeutic camp facilities and grow an endowment fund.
Founder and Executive Director Sarah Garrett said “This site is the ideal location for local children and families from multiple counties in the Hill Country. Building the ropes course is the first major milestone in making the dream of constructing our future facilities a reality. Our next phase of construction will be our state-of-the-art counseling center. We are incredibly grateful for each donation and pledge that has made our growth and future site possible.”
The Phoenix Center relies on the kindness of individual donors, businesses, and foundations. Currently, financial pledges to their capital campaign total just over $3 million; however, significantly more funding is needed to construct all phases of the future facilities.
