Fire destroys $1.3 million home on Lake LBJ

Granite Shoals Fire Rescue douse a blaze at lakeside home March 24, which may have originated from a back deck barbecue, according to investigators.

Granite Shoals Firefighters kept a fire at bay which destroyed a $1.3 million lakeside home and threatened at least two other residences on Lake LBJ, investigators reported.
The incident happened around 3:15 a.m. March 24 in the 2600 block of Belaire East in Granite Shoals.
According to Granite Shoals Fire Rescue, a nearby resident called to report “a very large fire in the back of the house.”
“There were two people who were incident the house who were woke up by the their dog,” he said. “They got out safely,” Granite Shoals Fire Rescue Chief Austin Stanphill said.
One of the residents was treated at the emergency room for smoke inhalation, the report stated.
When crews arrived, much of the home was engulfed in flames.
“It was through the roof and back side of the house,” he said. “They were trying to keep it from spreading.”
Investigators do not believe the cause was suspicious and offered clues about the possible origin.
“It started somewhere on the back deck,” Stanphill said. “They said they were barbecuing earlier in the day. It may have been that.”
Marble Fire Rescue and Marble Falls VFD responded to assist. Burnet County Sheriff's Office and Granite Shoals Police Department also staged at the scene.
The homeowners, who are from Williamson County, told investigators they were insured and considered the residence a secondary home, Stanphill said.
On March 25 crews went back to the scene to snuff a hot spot which flared up in paperwork in a smoldering filing cabinet.
