From staff reports

Two people died Easter Sunday, April 21 after an experimental aircraft crashed at an airstrip in Kingsland, near the Legends Golf Course, officials reported. Witnesses believe high winds may have played a factor.

The accident happened at 2:43 p.m. at an airstrip in River Valley Ranch, north of the golf course community at the Shirley Williams Airstrip, officials reported.

I can confirm that two people died at this time,” DPS Spokeswoman Trooper Robbie Barrera said on April 22. She added that the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the crash.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the plane, flying in blustery conditions, descended into the ground and burst into flames.

The aircraft, considered an experimental, light-weight model, was observed flying over residences earlier in the day.

As of press time April 22, the names of the victims were not released.
