Post Office to help stamp out hunger May 11 for Helping Center

As Helping Center Executive Director Sam Pearce has known for years, a dry, hot summer can lead to a food drought without community assistance.
“Food supplies go down at the food bank and other areas,” he said. “We have a hard time getting food during the summer.”
Once a year, the U.S. Postal Service does their part in helping replenish shelves by counting on their postal customers to donate non-perishable food items in May. The 27th Annual Stamp Out Hunger event is Saturday, May 11 coinciding with mail delivery times.
“They pick up all these bags. When their postal jeep gets full, they stop the route, bring it to the Helping Center, deliver it and go back to work,” Pearce said.
In the Marble Falls area, the donated food benefits to the Helping Center, which feeds families in communities including Cottonwood Shores, Granite Shoals and Spicewood. . . .
