Cottonwood Shores issues boil water notice

UPDATE: City officials lifted the boil water requirement for residents as of 1:30 p.m. Friday Feb. 14, as per TCEQ water quality testing results and restoration of proper water line pressure.

Cottonwood Shores residents are being told to boil their water for a couple of days starting late Wednesday, Feb. 12, while city water lines recover from an emergency repair.

The repair is slated to be done between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday, so the boil water notice is in effect starting at 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires the notice because lowered water pressure makes lines more susceptible to bacterial and other contamination. The notice applies to all water to be consumed, including drinking and cooking.

Water should be brought to a full boil and allowed to boil for two minutes before being allowed to cool and used, said City Administrator J.C. Hughes.

An alternative to boiling water is buying bottled water for consumption, Hughes said.

He said normally it takes about two days before the boil water notice can be rescinded, but reminded residents to continue the action until the city sends out notices to end the practice.

The water main work is part of repairing lines along Cottonwood Drive near Ranch Road 2147 after a break that happened in November, Hughes said.
