Boshears, Satsky, Trinidad, Dillard, Morren winners in local elections; Granite Shoals approves sales tax propositions

Granite Shoals Police Chief Gary Boshears was elected to Place 1 of the Marble Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees, while Tony Satsky and Cheryl Mott Trinidad won seats on the Cottonwood Shores City Council in today's school board and municipal elections.

Also winning spots on the Granite Shoals City Council were Tom Dillard in Place 4 and Mark Morren in Place 6. Voters in Granite Shoals also approved a pair of propositions on the ballot.

Boshears collected 379 votes, or 47.08 percent, of the 805 votes cast in early voting and on Saturday in the Marble Falls ISD election. Lenwood Nelson had 260 votes, or 32.30 percent, while Jim Coursey had 166 votes or 20.62 percent. Karl Westerman was elected officially to Place 2 as he was unopposed.

In Cottonwood Shores, Satsky retained his Place 1 seat on the council by collecting 47 votes, or 48.96 percent, as he fended off Bill Plumley, who received 42 votes, or 43.75 percent, and Matthew Orlando, who received seven votes, or 7.29 percent.

Trinidad successfully retained her Place 3 seat by winning 57 votes, or 58.16 percent, to 41 for Mary Ann Plumley, or 41.84 percent. Roger Wayson was re-elected to his Place 5 seat as he was unopposed.

In Granite Shoals, Dillard defended his Place 4 council seat by dispatching Arturo Rubio. Dillard had 112 votes, or 59.26 percent, while Rubio had 77 votes, or 40.74 percent. Morren retained his Place 6 seat by collecting 74 votes, or 38.95 percent, while Michael Steenbergen collected 59 votes (31.05 percent) and Will Skinner had 57 votes (30 percent).

Granite Shoals voters approved both propositions on the ballot, which will allow the city to set a sales and use tax rate of two percent. Proposition 1, which passed by a 111-86 votes, allows the city to put three-fourths of a percent in sales and use tax towards maintenance and repair of municipal streets.

Proposition 2, which passed by a vote of 119-78, allows the city to reauthorize the use of one-fourth of a percent of the sales and use tax rate to provide revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets. This tax would expire in four years unless the imposition of this tax is reauthorized in a future election.

Voters had previously approved a half a percent sales and use tax be used for property tax relief. This measure will no longer be in effect now that voters have approved Proposition 1.

The remaining one percent of sales and use tax in Granite Shoals will continue to go to the city's general fund.

Llano County results

In City of Llano alderman races, citizens elected Sammy Leverett, Gail Lang and Bryan Miller to the Board of Alderman as voters had to elect three people. Leverett received 354 votes, while Lang collected 324 votes and Miller received 312. Also receiving votes were Mike Hazel (293), John Ferguson (275) and Mikel Virdell (209).

In the Llano ISD Board of Trustees election, voters elected Lance Dillard and Todd Keller to Place 2 and Place 6, respectively. Dillard received 342 votes to 149 for Phil Hay Jr., while Keller received 297 votes to 227 for Lyn Jenkins. In Place 7, Jeff Kuykendall was unopposed and was elected.
