Jim Garrett
Jim Garrett
March 22, 1959 ~ Aug. 4, 2016
Jim Garrett, a loved and well known lifelong resident of the Marble Falls and Travis Peak communities, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016 at the age of 57 while at home.
Jim was born in Burnet (probably against his will – go Mustangs!) to Mary Lou and Joel Ervin “Erby” Garrett on March 22, 1959.
His sister, Cathy, and brother, Joel, completed the happy family of five.
He attended Marble Falls schools where he was a prominent figure in the FFA and football team. He earned an Associates Degree in Range Management from TSTI in Waco, and a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture from Tarleton State University, where he met his loving wife of 36 years, Deborah Ann Cleveland.
They were married in Stephenville on Aug. 23, 1980.
Upon graduation in Stephenville, he began a long and successful sales career in the agriculture, construction, and building industries in the Central Texas area.
In 1985, they had the first of their three children, Crystal Jill Garrett, followed by Wesley Ray Garrett in 1987 and James Russell Garrett in 1991.
A beloved son-in-law, Scott Emsoff, joined the family in 2008 followed by a wonderful daughter-in-law, Chelsey Brumbaugh Garrett in 2013.
His three beautiful granddaughters Skylar Joy, Elise Patience, and Abigail Faith Emsoff were his pride and joy.
He most recently could be found proudly sharing pictures of his grandchildren, telling stories of his adventures driving a bus for the Marble Falls School District, and tending to the Double Check Ranch.
Forever a man of the outdoors, hunting and fishing were passions he pursued his whole life, carrying out the traditions that connected him to friends and family.
He made many memories and many friends by experiencing the outdoors with those who shared his love for God’s creation.
Growing up in the Church of Christ and serving as a deacon at the Travis Peak Church of Christ, Jim was renowned for his singing and song leading ability.
There his interest for music began. He later learned to play guitar, and quickly fell in love with the art of songwriting, a craft that he pursued relentlessly up until his death.
His insatiable creative spirit lead him to be an entrepreneur in the activities he loved, creating his own line of fishing tackle and writing approximately 1,000 country and western and gospel songs.
His greatest talent however, was making friends with any and everyone he met.
He was sure to leave an impression as big as his grin, and his love for family and friends was unmatched.
Funeral services for Jim Garrett were held on Monday, Aug. 8, 2016 at the Marble Falls Church of Christ, beginning at 11 a.m.
Visitation was held at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016 from 6-8 p.m.
