Mitchell receives Texas State alumni award

Ron Lynn Mitchell, vice chairman, president and CEO of Horseshoe Bay Resort, has been awarded the Texas State University Distinguished Alumni Award.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is the most prestigious honor bestowed by Texas State University and the Texas State University Alumni Association. The award recognizes graduates who have achieved prominence and distinction in their chosen business, profession or life work on a national or international level.

The first Distinguished Alumni Award was presented in 1959 to Lyndon B. Johnson. Johnson later served as the 36th president of the United States.

Mitchell, an Austin native, is embarking on his 42nd year of involvement in the development of Horseshoe Bay Resort. He has been a leader in the company overseeing its vision, growth and development almost since its conception.

Since his days in student government at Texas State University, Mitchell has made hard work and giving back to his community priorities. Throughout his career, he has spent untold hours volunteering with a long list of nonprofits in the communities of Horseshoe Bay and Marble Falls, serving as chairman or president of various organizations. He has been given credit for much of the economic growth of the Highland Lakes and Hill Country area around Horseshoe Bay.

Mitchell has stayed active with the university, including governor appointee serving a six-year term on the Texas State University System Board of Regents, including two terms as vice chairman and the planning and construction committee overseeing and reviewing campus master plans and construction at the system's eight campuses. He also served for 10 years on the Texas State University Foundation Board, president’s council, and the Alumni Association of which he is a past president.

Mitchell currently serves on the Texas State University System Foundation Board of Trustees.
