The Broadband Advisory Committee, which consists of JJ Guy, Frank Gracely Jr., Frank Hosea, Christopher Williston, and Nick Summitt, presented their report after more than 200-man hours of meetings and engagements with all current and potential technology providers.

The committee's top goal of its long-range plan is to increase (some would say “provide”) dependable internet access to all homes with enough bandwidth to meet the needs of modern activity.

This committee looked for all options but have determined wireless providers cannot offer the kind of deep internet provision needed. Wired (direct connect through fiber, cable, or DSL) are needed for quality service.

The inquest into the October death of Sherry Kay Lesley, founder of GG Ganache in Marble Falls, has been closed with a finding of “accidental drowning,” according to a press release late Thursday, March 8, from Horseshoe Bay Chief of Police Rocky Wardlow.

Autopsies are frequent in cases of unattended deaths, and the HSBPD investigation had to remain open, pending a final determination by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office. That finding was “death by accidental drowning” and Wardlow said his department had found nothing to contradict it.

Lesley's husband Kent discovered her body in a bathtub in their home at 288 La Serena Loop on Oct. 22 last year. The HSBPD responded to his 9-1-1 call at 7:15 a.m.

According to a statement from the chief later in the investigation, the couple had attended a social function together on Saturday night, Oct. 21.

Granite Shoals bonds okayed, Clinesmith and Lambert ahead

With the Burnet County Elections Office, final unofficial election results in, Nov. 7 Election Day voters lifted the totals in support of the $3 million for road improvements in Granite Shoals.
A scant 354 voters cast ballots in the election, but 194 of them, or 54.8 percent, voted for the proposition and 160, or 45.2 percent, against. A no vote would have killed the proposed road rehabilitation project for the three primary, north-south city streets. Approval means that bonds authorized last year can be sold and the project can move forward.
It is believed it is the first time in Texas that a city council asked voters if they were sure of a previous vote.
Of 152 early voters, 53.29 percent had voted against the proposition.

Jordan: HSB prospering

Article Image Alt Text

Horseshoe Bay Mayor Steve Jordan provided this State of the City review for the Oct. 20 edition of The Highlander.

The measure of a well managed and open government is transparency and accountability. Your Mayor and Council Members have made these two issues our top priorities.

I am happy to report the state of the City of Horseshoe Bay is very sound. Horseshoe Bay operates with two main budgets: the General Fund and the Utility Fund. General Fund sources come primarily from ad valorem property tax receipts and the services include police, fire, animal control, street maintenance, parks, code enforcement, development services and general administration. The Utility Fund includes operation of water, waste water, garbage and recycling. Utility Fund revenue is collected through usage fees in order to assure utility services are provided on a stand-alone basis.
