Marble Falls Triathlon is Sunday, registration closes today, July 12

A new bridge will be the backdrop for swimmers in the Marble Falls Triathlon Sunday, July 16, but the hills faced by bikers remain the same grueling test.

 

 

The 17th annual Marble Falls Triathlon will be Sunday, July 16.

Online registration will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12. The event’s website is at www.marblefallstri.com.

The triathlon will consist of two races:

Intermediate — One-kilometer swim, 23-mile bicycle ride and 4.4-mile run.

Sprint Distance — 500-meter swim, 12-mile bike and two-mile run.

After registration, the triathlon will begin at 7 a.m. on Sunday with the Intermediate distance. It begins with men ages 34 and under; men ages 35-49; women 39 and under; men ages 50 and above and “Clydesdales” (men weighing 200 pounds or more); then women 40 and older, “Athenas” (women weighing 150 pounds or more) and Relays (Mens, Womens and Mixed).

At 7:30 a.m., the Sprint Distance begins with the same order of races as above.

The race consists of a swim in the warm freshwater of Lake Marble Falls, biking through the Hill Country with vistas and then finishing with a run through the lakeside neighborhood of Marble Falls.

Post-race festivities will begin at approximately 10 a.m., with award ceremonies following the last competitors finishing.

Awards will be given for the overall top male and female finishers; overall masters male and females; top-three age groupers for male and female for various ages; top-three Athena and Clydesdale and Relay Teams.

This is a USA Triathlon-sanctioned event with chip timing. Those racing must show their USAT membership card and photo identification at packet pickup, or they must purchase a membership of one day for $15 or a year for $50. The must also pick up their packet in person.

Packets can be picked up either from noon-7 p.m. on Friday, July 14 at Austin Tri-Cyclist at 923 Barton Springs Road in Austin, or from noon-5 p.m. on Saturday, July 15 at Holiday Inn Marble Falls at 714 Corazon Drive.

Mario Gonzales, triathlon race director, encouraged volunteers to sign up for the event.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of events like the Marble Falls Triathlon,” he said. “There are lots of opportunities available before, during or after the event weekend.”
