Golf pro Parsons to hit links for charity
Playing 36 holes of golf in a day can be physically taxing, but a local golf pro is planning to play 108 holes in one day — equivalent of six rounds of gold — for a good cause.
Gary D. Parsons, head golf professional at Horseshoe Bay Resort’s Cap Rock Golf Facility, will play 108 holes of golf July 31 to raise money for the Southern Texas PGA Foundation and its programs.
Parsons, a former editor of The Highlander. selected Marble Falls’ St. Frederick Baptist Church Meals Program as his charity to receive 30 percent of proceeds raised during the event.
“I’m looking forward to doing this again. This will be my sixth year to participate in the STPGA fundraiser,” Parsons said. “This event gives me an opportunity to continue my support of local charities and the good work St. Fredericks does for the Marble Falls community.”
Other golf professionals and pros from around the nation are participating in Charity Golf Day to raise money for junior golf programs, student scholarships and local charities.
Pledges can be made by assigning a monetary amount for number of holes played. Those pledging may also choose to make a flat donation in lieu of a pledge.
All pledges and donations are fully tax deductible and will be acknowledged by the STPGA Foundation.
To make a pledge, go to the Website www.stpga.com and click on Charity Golf Day. This will go to Parsons’ donation page.
Parsons can also be contacted at the Cap Rock Golf Facility at 830-598-6561.
The STPGA Foundation’s mission is to introduce and provide youth in Southern Texas broad opportunities to experience the game of golf, develop their talent as players and themselves as individuals and promote scholarship benefits to as many qualified candidates as possible.
