Horseshoe Bay’s activities to celebrate America’s birthday started at 7:30 a.m. on July 4 at the fire station where Randy and Denise Rives dispensed flags and pin wheels to participants planning to participate in the land and boat parades.

Due to a shortage in obtaining helium and considering environmental cleanliness, balloons were not issued, as was the case in previous parades.

At 8:30 a.m., the land parade began to take place near the corner of Hi Circle South and Clayton Nolan Drive. Carts, trucks, classic vehicles, police and fire vehicles and other conveyances were lined up in proper order.

With recorded music playing, sirens blaring and lights flashing, the Marble Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10376 Color Guard stepped off to start the parade.

Spectators lined the parade route, waved to and exchanged greetings with the vehicles' occupants and children scooped up pieces of candy that were tossed to the curb along the parade route. It was a marvelous sight.

Carts and cars were heavily decorated with flags, bunting and pinwheels. The colors red, white and blue were visible everywhere. . . .
