LCRA, PEC award grant to Llano County Historical Society

The Llano County Historical Society will be able to purchase new climate control equipment and lighting for its facility thanks to an $18,096 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of Llano.

The historical society will buy two new air conditioners and two commercial ceiling fans to better cool and circulate air in the museum, and LED lighting fixtures to better illuminate the exhibit area.

Llano County Historical Society Board Director Martha Long said providing a comfortable viewing experience and preserving the artifacts entrusted to the museum’s care are paramount.

The City of Cottonwood Shores will soon have a new police patrol vehicle thanks to a $19,100 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Pedernales Electric Cooperative.

The new patrol vehicle will help the city schedule officers and improve response time to emergency calls.

Granite Shoals awarded rainwater catchment grant

The City of Granite Shoals awarded a $23,063 grant to for a new rainwater catchment system by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) from the Community Development Partnership Program. The City of Granite Shoals will be able to capture rainwater and use it for landscape irrigation thanks to a $23,063 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Pedernales Electric Cooperative.
Granite Shoals will use the grant to build a system of pipes, downspouts and gutters to capture and reuse rainwater runoff from City Hall and a repurposed building that now houses two covered tennis courts.
 
“We are excited about the grant from LCRA,” said Ken Nickel, Granite Shoals city manager. “During our hot summers and droughts, we look forward to the positive economic impact of saving water by using this water conservation technique.”

Marble Falls Area EMS will acquire a LUCAS Chest Compression System and a Zoll portable ventilator, some of the most advanced equipment in the field of emergency medicine for cardiac arrest victims. When paired with defibrillators, medication and highly trained medics, the organization will be able to offer the best in CPR care, said Marble Falls Area EMS Operations Director Kevin Naumann­­.

The new patrol vehicle will help the city schedule officers and improve response time to emergency calls.
“The City of Cottonwood Shores is grateful to LCRA for the grant, but no one is more excited than our police
officers,” said Sheila Moore, Cottonwood Shores city administrator. “The city currently has three older vehicles,
one with more than 100,000 miles on it that constantly needs repairs. The police department is looking forward
to having a new dependable vehicle that is better suited to the city’s terrain.”
The new vehicle will enhance the city’s commitment to public safety. Cottonwood Shores established its police
department in 2006. Currently, four officers serve the city’s 1,300 residents.

LCRA hosts aquatic weed open houses

Water hyacinths have lovely blossoms, but pose a threat to power plants. Along with Eurasian watermilfoil, they will be discussed by the Lower Colorado River Authority at two local open houses Feb. 24 and March 1.

In response to Lake LBJ property owners complaints about nuisance aquatic plants, the Lower Colorado River Authority has streamlined the permit process for treatment and set two open houses—one in Granite Shoals Feb. 24 and another in Horseshoe Bay on March 1--to inform lakefront residents.

Each event will be held 3-6 p.m., with presentations at 3, 4 and 5 p.m. The open house in Granite Shoals will be held at the Granite Shoals Fire Department, 8410 West Ranch to Market Road 1431. In Horseshoe Bay it will be held at Quail Point Community Center, 107 Twilight Lane. Control measures for Eurasian watermilfoil and water hyacinths will be included.

Marble Falls PD officers address city council

The Marble Falls City Council devoted much of their meeting Tuesday night, Feb. 16, to informational presentations.

Jo Karr Tedder, president of Central Texas Water Coalition, reported on work of the LCRA. Mark Mayfield, president and chief executive officer of Texas Housing Foundation (THF) reported on the Marble Falls Housing Authority. And, officers of the Marble Falls Police Department provided the council updates on current topics of interest. MFPD Chief Mark Whitacre, praised the expertise and professionalism of the presenters, Capt. Glenn Hanson, Lt. Steve Eckstein, Lt. Tom Dillard and Sgt. Justin Boucher.
