At the end of a rollercoaster 2019-20 season, the Marble Falls High School boys basketball team sent the seniors off with a win 47-41 over Pflugerville on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The Mustangs finished in fifth place in the district with a 3-9 record – five games behind the fourth place team. It was a season of thrilling wins and disappointing losses for the Mustangs under first year head coach Travis Crain.

“We were so close in three of our district games; if the ball goes a different way, we're 6-6,” he said. “To be able to close out the season with a win was huge.”

A game-tying three-point shot by junior Tate Deering missed the mark just before the final buzzer in the Marble Falls Mustangs' 72-69 loss to San Marcos Home School on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Max Copeland Gym.

The Mustangs (0-2) trailed by 16 points at halftime after a shaky start on the offensive side of the ball.

“We're still very much a work in progress,” Mustangs Head Coach Travis Crain said. “You can do it in practice, but when the ball goes up against another team, it takes some time to find what's working.”

With the conclusion of the football and cross country seasons, the Marble Falls boys basketball team has a full roster to begin final preparations for their 2019-2020 campaign.

Several key players for the Mustangs, including senior Josh Whitecotton and sophomore Connor Chase, play other fall sports, and the Mustangs' practices have been limited to honing the fundamentals while first year Head Coach Travis Crain waited for the rest of the team.

“We're excited to get everything going and get everyone over here,” he said. “We finally have everyone, and it's an exciting time for the Marble Falls Mustangs basketball team.”

The Marble Falls boys' basketball team couldn't remove the lid from the basket in a 57-49 loss to the Glenn Grizzlies at home on Friday.

The Mustangs went one-for-16 from three-point range in the game with their sole basket coming with 37 seconds remaining in the game.

“Our Achilles heel all year has been we don't hit enough shots,” Mustangs head coach Matt Bailey said. “We had some tough looks, and we had some good looks.”

The Marble Falls offense came out rolling and got some easy baskets at the rim after beating the press. The teams flashed different styles as the Mustangs worked the ball inside, and the Grizzlies attempted three-point shots on several consecutive possessions to open the game. Halfway through the first quarter, Glenn had only two makes, and the Mustangs led 12-6.
