COVID-19 concerns prompt temporary closure of Texas State Parks

At the direction of Gov. Greg Abbott, Texas State Parks will be closed to the public effective at the close of business Tuesday, April 7 in order to maintain the safest environment for visitors, volunteers and staff, according to a press release from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

"The state agency will continue to stay current with the latest public health recommendations and will announce when a definite reopening date has been determined," the release stated.

Governor's decree to supersede Burnet County COVID-19 order

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statewide executive order on March 31 directing all Texans to minimize non-essential gatherings and in-person contact with people who are not in the same household and keeping schools closed to in-person classroon attendance through May 4.

Judge: Burnet County will follow governor's lead on COVID-19

Burnet County Commissioners received an update March 19 during a special called meeting, where an emergency disaster declaration was updated based on a state-issued order. Burnet County Judge James Oakley said Tuesday, March 24, he doesn't believe a “shelter-in-place” order will be necessary for Burnet County following similar orders being issued for Austin and Travis County and the city of Lampasas.

Marble Falls ISD suspends school until April 3

In reaction to developments with COVID-19, Marble Falls Independent School District suspended normal school operations until at least April 3 to provide time to be more informed about a return to classes.

The date for suspension was updated on March 19 to comply with Gov. Greg Abbott's executive order.

Marble Falls City Council debated Nov. 19 how to proceed with newly-passed state law which limits a municipality's ability to prohibit construction materials based on aesthetics.

Following passage by state lawmakers and Gov. Greg Abbott's signature during the 86th Texas Legislature, HB 2439 became law in September, prompting cities to scramble to align their codes to match the mandate. State lawmakers based the law on national building standards geared towards health and safety regulation.
