On Saturday, June 9, at approximately 4:47 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a crash on Texas 71 close to the Travis/Blanco County line, in which 17-year-old Marble Falls High School senior Maribel Enriquez was seriously injured and transported to St. David's Hospital; Enriquez was later pronounced dead at the hospital. 

According to a statement issued by DPS Sergeant Ryan Howard, Enriquez was traveling eastbound in a Ford Mustang when her slick rear tires caused her to lose control and slide across multiple lanes of traffic into the path of a Mercedez-Benz, occupied by passenger Preben Hammer, 71, of Austin, who died at the scene, and his wife, 68-year-old Alice Hammer of Austin, who was later pronounced dead at St. David's Hospital. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz and the passenger in the Ford Mustang were transported to St. David's Hospital, both in critical condition.

A driver reportedly evading police in the pre-dawn hours Thursday, Oct. 19, was killed in a crash in the 1300 Block of Prairie Creek Road in Granite Shoals.

He was identified as Cruz Grimaldo Suarez, 18, of Granite Shoals, in a preliminary crash investigation report from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The DPS said Suarez was not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Roxanne Nelson.

The accident occurred at 3:33 a.m. The Granite Shoals Police Department closed all traffic on the road from Crockett Park to Forest Hills Drive and re-routed school busses.

GSPD Sgt. Chris Decker, department public information officer, said details will not be available until sometime Friday, Oct. 20.

A driver charged with evading law enforcement out of Mason County on July 2,  is safely in the Burnet County Jail.
Briana Marie Cuellar, a 26-year old woman from Uvalde, is now in the Burnet County Jail on charges of evading arrest and reckless driving out of Mason County.

When Cuellar refused to stop for law enforcement and headed her car at high speed toward Llano, police officer Aime Shannon was able to respond to the call by deploying Stop Sticks. StopStick, Ltd., makers of the tire deflation device, recognized Deputy Bucky Boswell of Llano County Sheriff’s Office in May with its “Hit of the Year” award for use of the Stop Stick tire deflation device in ending a pursuit.

The devices were again successful, according to Llano County Chief Deputy John Neff.

An early morning accident on Friday, Jan. 20, claimed the life of a Marble Falls resident.

Brian Michael Young, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which took place on Farm-to-Market Road 1431 near the intersection with FM 1174 in Williamson County at about 7:43 a.m. Friday.

Young was driving a 2015 Nissan Versa and was headed eastbound, about seven miles west of Lago Vista, when it appears his vehicle went into the opposite lane, striking a trailer being pulled by a 2013 Ford F-250 traveling westbound.

A piece of rebar from the trailer dislodged and went into Young's vehicle, fatally injuring him. No information was available immediately on the name of the driver of the Ford F-250 or that driver's condition.
